Sidney Lanier
(1842 - 1881)
Sidney Clopton Lanier was born in Macon, Georgia. He was a lawyer, musician (flautist), poet, composer, author and academic. He contracted tuberculosis while in a Union prisoner of war camp, leading to his early death.
