Narrative of a Whaling Voyage Round the Globe (1840)

Shortly after qualifying as a physician, the author signed on to a three year's voyage on a whaler header for the South Sea fishery.

This two-volume work is considered one of the most accurate descriptions of industry. There are extensive descriptions of flora, fauna and the peoples of the South Pacific. Herman Melville reviewed it favorably.
