The Oregon Trail Sketches of Prairie and Rocky-Mountain Life (1925)
Francis Parkman took a tour of the western United States in 1846 which included a buffalo hunt with a band of Sioux. He recorded his adventures in this, his first book, which met with critical success. He went on to write the history of the European conquest and settlement of the American forest.
