William Hickling Prescott

Born in Salem and educated at Harvard, Willima Hickling Prescott became the premier historian of Spain and the Spanish conquest of the new world for English speaking readers. His Conquest of Mexico and Conquest of Peru have been reprinted many times and are still read.


The Conquest of Montezuma’s Empire (1928)

A condensed version of Prescott’s Conquest of Mexico, which was originally published by Andrew Lang in his The True Story Book. It tells the deathless story of how Hernando Cortez and a small band of Spanish adventurers conquered the evil kingdom of the Aztecs.
