Gretchen Woelfle grew up in Dunkirk, New York, and her childhood spent near Lake Erie had a lasting impact upon her and her memories. She studied English at the University of California at Berkeley. Then she did editorial work and magazine writing in London, New England, the Midwest and Los Angeles California. Gretchen received her Master in Fine Arts in Writing for Children from Vermont College. She currently lives in California with her husband and two children.
