Sterling North
(1906 - 1974)
Thomas Sterling North grew up in Edgerton in southern Wisconsin. He worked as a newspaperman, editor and novelist. He is best know for his children’s books, including Rascal, the story of his pet raccoon. In the 1940’s he was an early critic of comic books.

Midnight and Jeremiah (1943)
Jeremiah raises Midnight, a black lamb to compete at the county fair. This book was made into a movie So Dear to My Heart in 1949.

An elementary school reader which contains an excerpt from Thimble Summer by Elizabeth Enright which was illustrated by Stephani Godwin, and a version of Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss which was illustrated by Mary Gehr.
