Chief Seattle
(1786 - 1866)
Chief Seattle was a Suquamish and Duwamish chief, and a leading figure among his people. The city of Seattle is named after him. A book called Brother Eagle, Sister Sky (1991) represents a widely publicized speech of his arguing in favor of ecological responsibility and respect of Native Americans' land rights.
