When you go to a book page, we provide you the names of the people who made the book: Author, Illustrator, Editor, Translator, Compiler, and Publisher.

AUTHOR

An Author is a person who wrote the book.

Some books have more than one Author.

ILLUSTRATOR

An Illustrator is an artist who made the pictures in the book.

Some books have more than one Illustrator.

EDITOR

An Editor manages contributions to a multi-author book, or produces modern versions of classic books.

Some books have more than one Editor.

TRANSLATOR

A Translator reads the book in its original language and writes it in a new language.

Some books have more than one Translator.

COMPILER

A Compiler selects the stories, illustrations, etc., to include in an anthology.

Some books have more than one Compiler.

Publishers produce and distribute children's books.

PEN NAME

Most of our Makers used their real name. But some used a pen name.

Some Makers have more than one pen name.

Here are three examples of pen names:

• An author named Samuel Langhorne Clemens wrote books under his own name, as well as under the pen name of Mark Twain.

• An author named Theodor Seuss Geisel wrote books under his own name, as well as under four pen names: Dr. Seuss, Dr. Theophrastus Seuss, Theo LeSieg, and Rosetta Stone.

• As a writing team, Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm collectively shared one pen name of Brothers Grimm.
